Christmas Eve Run
Greetings Members,
It's almost time again for the annual QRC Christmas Eve Run at Quicksilver County Park. In the spirit of the holidays, this event welcomes all QRC members past and present, friends, families, and basically anyone else who would like to come along.
The details are simple:
When: December 24th, 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Quicksilver Park & Castillero Middle School (Park by the Tennis Courts)
You should plan on parking at Castillero Middle School (6384 Leyland Park Dr, San Jose, CA 95120) and running or hiking to the Bull Run section of Quicksilver Park (the intersection of Mine Hill Trail and Castillero Trail). You need to plan for about 4.5 to 5 uphill miles through the McAbee entrance and get to Bull Run by 9 AM. If you plan on walking, you may wish to park by the McAbee gate and then allow for 1hr 45min each way.
BIODEGRADABLE ORNAMENT COMPETITION:
For those of you that are artistically inclined (or at least think that you are), we will be holding the traditional informal competition for the best biodegradable Christmas ornament. Remember, you've got to carry your ornament all the way up the hill for it to be eligible, so before you create that life-sized Santa Claus ice sculpture, please make sure that you are able to get it to the judging spot at Bull Run. When you get to the top of the hill, please place your biodegradable Christmas ornament on the bush/tree by the trough.
CHRISTMAS CAROLS:
At 9 AM sharp (At Bull Run) we will gather together and sing some Christmas Carols before heading back down to the Castillero Middle School parking lot. Like last year, instead of printing out a bunch of songbooks to carry up the hill, we are providing advance digital copies of the lyrics for all your favorite Christmas carols, and those rare second and third verses. The songbook PDF can be found here. Please print out and bring a copy for yourself, or save it to your mobile device, which you will probably have with you anyway. (No recording of the singing is allowed!) :-)
POTLUCK CELEBRATION & AWARDS:
Starting at about 10 AM, we will gather in the parking lot to enjoy each others’ company. The club will provide coffee and other beverages suitable for kids and for adults. Please bring some treats to share. If you've been anxiously waiting for the opportunity to share your Great-Grandmother's fruitcake recipe, there will be a bunch of hungry runners there who have been known to eat just about anything! We will also announce the top 5 winners for the best ornament competition, and they will receive special prizes.
